Back At It
I feel a lot more settled after a couple of days in class. I remember how this feels. I’m adjusting to the new period lengths. Except that this year, I’m starting off with a clue as to what I’m doing. It’s a big difference from last year! My classes are quiet when I want them quiet. Things happen in an orderly and un-rushed way. I’m very clear about what I want, and I’m generally getting it. Every single student in the Geometry class I had today did the four Pythagorean Theorem problems I had assigned for homework. We discussed the fairness of the SAT, given the fact that boys’ math scores on average have always been much higher than girls’. (The consensus among both genders was that the test was probably fair, but that other factors might not be. How wise, these children!) Anyway, I’m feeling good about how things are going so far this year, and that I’ve been able to already identify a few specific students that will be needing a lot of help. It’s a major goal of mine this year to be more focused on individual students.
