I’ve just had a write a paper about IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) which is today’s name for the 1975 EHA (Education For All Handicapped Children Act). These are the laws that govern how special education works in the United States. Just in case anyone else out there is working on a credential program that requires a paper like this, and doesn’t feel like buying the “required” text by Gargiulo ($88 in paperback, $105 in hardcover), here are some online resources. I hate to think how much money I’d be spending if I bought every book they told me to buy.

Associated Content - IDEA: A Breakdown of Its Components, Amendments, and Referral Process has a good overview of the six key components in the legislation, some information about reauthorizations, and an overview of the referral process.

Houghton Mifflin - Current Legislation has a lot of details about the reauthorizations and changes to the original laws over the years, including P.L. 99-457, P.L. 101-476, and P.L. 105-17.

OpenCRS provides a Congressional Research Report called Analysis of Changes Made by P.L. 108-446 which brings you up to date with all the details about NCLB and the latest reauthorization.

  2. GOD BLESS YOU!!! I too have grown sick of purchasing required text for my online classes only to have them collect dust. Thank you for the time and money you’ve saved me.
